Sister

Transitioning from best friends to sisters was (from an outside perspective) completely random. However, these two women allowed me to shoot them at the house (2005) they grew up in together. The "Rainbow" house. Their friendship turned family-relationship is a complex and layered journey. Through the years these two have always treated me as a sister, and I feel blessed having them as my family now too.

Women's Portrait Series: Wendy's portrait is the first wave of portraits I shot starting in 2005 before I knew I would ever create such a series. I started a project that I can never put down, I love it too much.

Geisha Dream

In 2005 after shooting the East meets West series of Geisha mixed with iconic western images, i played with the slides. Simultaneously I exposed two slides and printed a polaroid transfer. I loved how this turned out.

Inspiring Cindy

Cindy Sherman was my first inspiration as a photographer after I received her for a presentation in a photography history class. I spent so much time looking and studying her work and realized we had many things in common. Dressing up in strange not necessarily pretty things, I used to make videos as a kid of crazy skits with demented characters I read she liked doing the same creating grotesque and intriguing characters. I liked playing with things that were not the norm of femininity. I liked Cindy's Untitled Film Stills from the 1970s presenting the audience with a sense of someone else in the room. I felt that was genius and parallels what it is like to walk into a room and be constantly reminded of your gender even today. I took this image with the thought of a man (I can not remember for the life of me which man it was at the time) and pretended he was coming through the door... it is up to someone else to decide why he's walking in or who it is. Shot in 2005.

Anxiety

The series of self portraits from 2008 dealt heavily with the affects of PTSD. This one was about anxiety in particular. Although I felt I was being eaten from the inside out from nerves, I could not help but hold onto it. It was as though the anxiety had become a security in not having to deal with anything else, an excuse not to be happy and stay pining in a small world I had created. It was shot a few years after the regularly occurring panic attacks started. I wanted the color to contradict the moths gnawing through me so I chose to print the negative.

Created in 2008 this is apart of a self portrait series that investigated my distracted nature due to post traumatic stress disorder.

Healing

This is apart of the 2008 self portrait series Healing, my whole body was wrapped with gauze. I was bandaging myself up and learning how to take care of myself.
